“It is a pleasure to count Dr Lucy Harrison as a colleague and a privilege to recommend her work. She has a deep commitment to doctor's professional and personal development, well-being and mental health. She brings a potent mixture of deep knowledge, careful preparation, humanity and effective communication skills. Most important she walks the talk, embodying the of practise of medicine with professionalism, authenticity and humanity. Her vision has the potential to transform the practice of medicine, in the tradition of others like Henry Marsh, Paul Kalanithi and Christie Watson."

"Through her engaging and insightful presentations on mindfulness and its benefits, Lucy demonstrates her ability to create an environment where people feel comfortable to explore mindfulness for the first time. Her guidance and encouragement throughout the practice is a fantastic support and enables you to fully understand the different sensations and aspects of mindfulness. It is a skill and practice that I would encourage all businesses to look into for the wellbeing of their employees."

"When your curiosity leads you to begin exploring Mindfulness, one of the most helpful pieces of advice you may come across is: “First, find a good teacher.”

This means finding a teacher who can guide you on your Mindfulness journey with authenticity and compassion.

The teacher’s authenticity comes from several years of personal Mindfulness practice and a detailed knowledge of how Mindfulness can be developed. The compassion comes from the teacher’s personal understanding of the effort involved in developing Mindfulness.

The comparison is made with learning to swim. Only a teacher who knows how to swim well herself and is in the pool with you can be fully effective!

When Mindfulness was being developed as a therapeutic method (MBCT), the team charged with the task by NICE discovered that when the component of authenticity was lacking the effect of the intervention was significantly reduced.

Having witnessed Dr Lucy Harrison’s Mindfulness teaching sessions as an observer and participant on several occasions, I am confident that she possesses all the characteristics of an effective teacher in this specialty.

Having worked myself as a mentor with doctors in primary and secondary care, I am convinced that the type of MBCT courses that Dr Harrison offers has enormous potential in helping doctors cope with the pressures of clinical practice and the stresses of life in general.

I heartily recommend Dr Harrison and her courses to you.

The results are likely to be transformative.

"Having heard such excellent feedback on Dr Harrison's mindfulness course for doctors, we were delighted she agreed to run a half-day workshop at our conference on resilience at Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust. The workshop was very well organised, and the feedback we received was highly positive. We look forward to more opportunities to work with her in the future."

Dr Richard Duggins, Consultant Medical Psychotherapist, Clinical Lead, NTW NHS Foundation Trust

"MBCT North East has provided  very valuable input to our GP appraiser education and update sessions. These events are held to make sure our appraisers are kept up to date in skills and knowledge that help them support the GPs they appraise. Mindfulness is one of the tools that can be very helpful for GPs working in busy, demanding and sometimes stressful jobs."

Dr Di Jelly, Clinical Lead for GP Appraisal NHS England, Cumbria and North East

"Lucy delivered a compelling talk to the Oxford University Medical Students on Mindfulness in Medicine.  She shared her personal journey as well as drawing on her experience of using mindfulness as a tool in clinical practice."

Dr Harrison's presentation was interactive, engaging and very interesting and it was a pleasure to hear about her work at the ASME MiME (Mindfulness in Medical Education) national sharing event in February 2019. Her delivery was professional and clear and the audience were encouraged to ask questions throughout as well as at the end of the presentation. Dr Harrison answered all questions expertly and we at MiME hope that Dr Harrison will be involved in more ASME and MiME events in the future.

Dr Harrison presented to a mixture of clinical and non-clinical staff at our GP surgery. She was incredibly knowledgeable and delivered an excellent session which was relevant to all those present. Feedback from staff has been entirely positive and many of them have gone on to access further materials or resources which Dr Harrison was able to signpost them too.

"Lucy came to present to the northern radiology Annual Scientific Meeting for an hour (a mixture of approximately 120 specialty trainees and consultants) and had the whole room fully engaged throughout. Her presentation was relevant and practical, and received absolutely excellent feedback. I would unreservedly recommend Lucy as a guest speaker for all sizes of gathering in any specialty, workplace or other group."
